What is IIHRSR's primary mission?
We are dedicated to protecting and advancing the fundamental rights of individuals globally. Our work focuses on International legal advocacy, field rescues, or policy lobbying to ensure dignity and justice for all.
Where is IIHRSR located?
Our global headquarters IIRESODH is located in San José, Costa Rica, serving as our primary hub for Latin American operations. We also maintain a strategic operational office in Quebec, Canada, which facilitates our international partnerships and European programs. This dual presence allows us to bridge the gap between North American resources and grassroots impact in Latin America and Europe.
Where do you operate?
While our headquarters are in San José, Costa Rica, our programs span Latin America and Europe. We work primarily through local partnerships to ensure our impact is culturally grounded and sustainable.
Is IIHRSR a registered non-profit?
Yes. IIHRSR is a legally registered non-profit organization in Canada. We operate as the operational arm of our parent organization, IIRESODH (Instituto Internacional de Responsabilidad Social y Derechos Humanos), which is based in San José, Costa Rica.
Does your organization have international accreditation?
Yes. Our parent organization, IIRESODH, has earned the NGOsource Equivalency Determination (ED) certification. This "badge" signifies that IIRESODH has been officially vetted and found to be the equivalent of a U.S. public charity. This status allows U.S.-based foundations to fund our human rights work with the same ease as a domestic 501(c)(3) organization.
Are your services free?
Our mission is to ensure that justice is accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. To achieve this, we use a Sliding Scale model: For those in vulnerable situations: Our services are provided at no cost. We are committed to ensuring that a lack of funds is never a barrier to defending your human rights. For those with the means to contribute: We request a fee or a contribution based on a case-by-case assessment of your financial capacity. Why do we charge some clients? Every paid service directly funds our "Pro Bono" (free) cases. When you pay for our services, you are directly sponsoring the legal defense or advocacy of someone who cannot afford it. This allows us to remain independent and continue our work across Latin America and Europe without relying solely on external grants.
Do you accept drop-in appointments?
Our office handles a high volume of complex cases, and our legal team is often in court or in confidential sessions. For this reason, we do not accept in-person drop-ins at this time. To ensure you receive the time and attention your case deserves, we strongly recommend booking a consultation in advance. Without a scheduled appointment, we cannot guarantee that a lawyer or advocate will be available to meet with you. How to book: Please use our Services page or contact us at contact@iihrsr.org to request a formal consultation.
